HOBOKEN FOOD RESCUE INITIATIVE
The Hoboken Food Rescue Initiative is led by local high school students and funded by a grant from the Hoboken Youth Climate Action Fund, made possible by Bloomberg Philanthropies. We're working with businesses to reduce food waste and address food insecurity in our community.

The Project
Why Food Rescue?
Did you know that 40% of food produced in the U.S. ends up in landfills, contributing to climate change? Meanwhile, over 10% of Americans are food insecure. We're here to change that by connecting local food establishments with recipients who can set surplus food to good use.
Collection
Our network of donors, including restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, and cafeterias, will inform us about the food they have available and the quantities. Once we receive this information, we will coordinate with our volunteers to arrange pickups, ensuring that surplus food is collected and redistributed effectively.
Distribution
Once our volunteers receive the food, they will distribute it to various recipients in Hoboken, including food pantries, shelters, and religious organizations. By ensuring access to nutritious food, we can help improve health outcomes, reduce stress for families, and promote overall well-being. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of many in our community.
Our Values
Hoboken Food Rescue is passionately dedicated to tackling the critical issues of food waste and food insecurity that affect our community. Our core belief is that by implementing innovative solutions, we can effectively redirect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, ensuring it reaches those who are in need. We strive to foster a more sustainable and compassionate community where everyone has access to the nourishment they deserve. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in both the health of our planet and the lives of individuals struggling with hunger. We invite you to join us on this mission to create a brighter and more equitable future for all.
